Manheim Township School District - Landis Run Intermediate School

The transition from elementary to middle school is particularly challenging
due to the timing of the transition with the onset of adolescence. The
complexity of early adolescence requires an instructional climate designed
to meet this age group’s unique developmental characteristics. The 5/6
Building is a school designed to meet the special needs of students in 5th
and 6th grade. Having 5th grade students included in a middle school program will provide an opportunity to enhance student development needs and the need for our school to provide a smoother transition from one learning setting to another. Most children of this age are entering puberty, a period of rapid growth which marks the end of childhood and
the start of physical and sexual maturity. One of the goals of the 5/6 Building is to provide students an opportunity to understand the physical, social, mental and emotional changes associated with adolescence. By offering students a variety of courses that cater to these needs, students will be better prepared to succeed in a global environment. As a school, we will promote ongoing teacher collaboration and respond to student
strengths and needs through interdisciplinary teaming. These small teams will provide the flexibility needed within each core class (math, language arts, social studies and science).  In addition, each related course offering will be designed to maximize student-learning experiences with the overall goal of enabling our students to successfully navigate the ever-changing world in which they live.
