Project Details : Project Description

The proposed renovations and additions to the Garden Spot High School are a result and an extension of the completion of a district-wide school facilities feasibility study in November, 2006, completed by Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates, architects. The goal of the study was to provide the Eastern Lancaster County School District with an overview and evaluation of its existing educational facilities, information on school district demographics and enrollment projections, as well as educational facility options and cost estimates. This information was provided to the School Board of Directors in order to allow them to make decisions regarding the short and long term school facility needs within the school district. In September, 2007, after review and consideration of the facilities feasibility study, the Eastern Lancaster County School District Board of School Directors, authorized Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates to begin planning for proposed improvements to the Garden Spot Campus.

In order to begin the educational programming for the proposed improvements, a project planning steering committee was developed in October, 2007. The steering committee, in addition to the architect and engineers, consists of school district administration, department heads of the middle school and high school, as well as several school board members. The goal of the committee is to serve as a clearinghouse for the discussion and review of all project related educational programming and design information relative to the facility needs at the Middle and High School complex

This project is intended to improve, update and provide appropriate space for academic, extra-curricular and community activities at the Garden Spot High School / Middle School. The ultimate goal is to address current life-safety and building code related needs, upgrade and extend the building physical plant and operational systems and address educational program needs, providing the necessary flexibility to support curriculum changes as well as changes to the organizational structure of the school, within a limited and costs effective budget.
