Located in the heart of Boiling Springs, PA, Iron Forge Elementary School has served as a center of education in the community for over 90 years. Originating as the District’s High School, rooted as a historic centerpiece, the renovations strengthen the building as a high performing, 21st century learning center. The building serves 600 students in grades 3-5, is the District Administrative Offices, and a District Athletic Facility for the entire campus to utilize.
Creating a flexible and open environment for elementary education, the facility makes a direct connection with nature and historic architecture within Boiling Springs, including the Children’s Lake, Yellow Breeches Creek, and the Appalachian Trail that winds through South Middleton Township. These themes of history and nature were used throughout the building, creating both views to the outdoors and playful references to the surrounding context through the use of stone, wood and brick.
