Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates (CRA Architects) provided the design solution for an extensive renovation of Stevensville Middle School for Queen Anne’s County Public Schools. The current facility was constructed in 1952 and had several additions over the last 60 years. The facility is home to 525 students in grades 6-8.
The design addressed the outdated building systems, code issues and program, safety and security needs of the facility. The team coordinated two seamless phases that allowed minimal disruption to students and staff during school hours. Modular classroom units were installed on site to house sciences, the library and other key learning spaces, while a temporary kitchen was created in the auxiliary gym using the existing kitchen equipment to save the school system money. To expedite the schedule, the geothermal well field was bid separately and installed prior to the general contractor mobilizing the site.
The Stevensville Middle School project is the third project since 2006 that CRA Architects has collaborated on with Queen Anne’s County, on Maryland’s eastern shore.
