The Chester County Prison modernization was needed to relieve conditions of overcrowding and provide significant program enhancements to maintain the functions of the prison. The phased construction project included an addition for new housing, medical suite, intake/discharge and multipurpose rooms. The new housing unit was built first and the inmates were relocated to the new units for the remainder of construction. Design also included renovations to the court facilities which are required for conducting preliminary hearings onsite rather than transporting offenders to another Central Court location. Supports spaces include judges chambers, holding cells for the inmate and required storage space.
