Ephrata Middle School Media Center
The Ephrata Middle School media center, maker space and audio/video studios were renovated to provide an open, flexible and dynamic environment that is easily supervised yet provides opportunities for individual and small group collaboration. The existing spaces were outdated, visually unappealing, and problematic to supervise due to lines of sight. The renovation sought to address these problems and create a space where students would be energized and inspired to learn and create.
A wall was removed between the media center and an adjacent classroom, adding roughly 900 sf to the space and creating an elevated student lounge. Large risers connect the lounge to the media center and provide a place for students to sit and read or gather informally. The media center, which is interior to the building, now receives more daylight due to added windows in the corridor and a new glass entrance that allows daylight to enter the space.
