Montebello School Wins ABC’s Highest Honor
CAM Construction and Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates are honored to announce that the Montebello Elementary / Middle School historic renovation & addition project has won the Excellence in Construction 2023 Diamond Excellence Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Greater Baltimore.
The project was selected out of many submissions as a leading example of contractor expertise, working seamlessly with the architect and school system to achieve ABC’s highest honor.
The 93,717 SF building originally opened in 1922 and was successfully transformed into a 21st century school to house grades K-8. The project revitalized the historic 100-year-old building, which overlooks its namesake, Lake Montebello, Baltimore City.
The renovation/addition touched every area of the school, including a rehabilitated gymnasium and cafetorium, created collaborative spaces adjacent to classrooms with high-tech wiring and enhanced sound systems, large touch screens, and LED lighting throughout, replaced 307 new energy efficient windows, and a new 74,000 SF HVAC system.
Two exterior playgrounds were created, as well as a space dedicated for community use. The sustainable project is LEED Silver Registered with the USGBC, and incorporated Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) elements to improve safety and security.
