May 21, 2025 | BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD – Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS), along with elected officials and members of the design and construction team, gathered in the new media center at Pine Grove Middle School in Carney, Maryland, to commemorate the completion of a transformative three-year renovation. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official conclusion of a $47.2 million comprehensive modernization project that expanded the school by 16,787 square feet, increased capacity by 158 seats, and completely upgraded every space and building system.

“Pine Grove Middle School has proudly served the students of Perry Hall, Carney, and Parkville since 1974,” said Councilman David Marks. “The original open-classroom design and aging infrastructure made modernization essential. This project represents a long-overdue investment in our students and community.”
Councilman Mike Ertel recognized the collective effort that brought the project to life: “Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers, students, educators, and dedicated PTA volunteers—your collaboration has resulted in a remarkable transformation of this learning environment.”
Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers remarked on the uniqueness of the project: “It’s rare for students and staff to remain in a school during such an extensive renovation. Their resilience throughout this process is truly commendable.”
“This was the most extensive and invasive renovation ever undertaken by Baltimore County Public Schools while the building remained occupied,” noted Principal Deborah Magness. “The upgrades have fundamentally reshaped our school—from how we teach and interact, to how we support students every day. The improvements have enhanced safety, modernized learning environments, and created a welcoming and intuitive space for all.”
In addition to the 21st-century media center, the renovation included a new secured main entry and administrative suite, enhanced CPTED-based security features, updated mechanical systems, reconfigured circulation for buses and parent drop-off, and advanced classroom technology. Flexible, collaborative learning spaces and intuitive wayfinding throughout the building ensure that the school meets the evolving needs of both students and staff.
As Principal Magness concluded, “This is no longer just a renovated facility—it’s a brand-new school for the Pine Grove community. Be prepared to be amazed.”
