Carlisle Area School District Breaks Ground on New Middle School

The Carlisle Area School District officially celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Carlisle Middle School, marking a significant milestone in the district’s commitment to providing innovative and future-ready learning environments for students.

The new middle school will be a 213,447-square-foot, two-story facility located adjacent to Wilson Intermediate School. Designed to serve seventh and eighth grade students, the building will organize each grade level on its own dedicated floor, creating a learning environment tailored to the unique needs of middle school learners.

A key feature of the design is the building’s “Main Street” concept, which separates academic classrooms from shared core spaces. This thoughtful arrangement enhances quiet learning environments while isolating higher-activity areas such as the cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, technology education classrooms, and music spaces.

At the heart of the academic wing, an outdoor learning courtyard will provide students and teachers with a flexible space for experiential and collaborative learning opportunities.

The facility has also been designed with the future in mind. Core building systems and shared spaces are sized to accommodate growth, and the campus layout allows for the addition of an eight-classroom expansion wing as enrollment needs evolve.

“This groundbreaking marks more than the start of construction—it represents an investment in the future of our students, staff, and community,” said Christina Magruder, Executive Secretary to the Superintendent. “We are grateful to our Board of Directors, administrators, project partners, elected officials, community members, staff, students, and all who have contributed to bringing this vision to life.”

Construction of the new Carlisle Middle School is expected to create a modern educational environment that supports collaboration, innovation, and student success for generations to come.
